FACE CLUB was part of the carnival on ice

On 19 February, the town of Spišská Belá, in cooperation with FACE CLUB, organised the Carnival on Ice. The event took place on the ice rink of the ball hockey hall.

Not long ago, a lovely idea sprang up: to gather together as people once did at Shrovetide. After all, our grandfathers also used these folk festivals to meet up. We are delighted that we have revived this tradition in our town too. Before Lent, it is one of the last chances to have some fun.

The whole event was opened with a speech by the mayor, Jozef Kuna. One look at the ice made it clear that the people of Belá had welcomed the invitation to the carnival with enthusiasm. They dressed their little ones in all sorts of costumes and skated in a good mood to the rhythm of the music that DJ Maroš played from start to finish. In total, 98 masks were registered. The youngest participant, a “ladybird”, was only 2 years old.

Staff and volunteers from FACE CLUB took care of a great programme. They came up with various competitions for the children, the youth leaders dressed up as mascots and danced and frolicked on the ice with the children. The joy on the faces of the youngest, who were thrilled to meet their favourite fairy-tale characters, was the greatest reward for everyone. Up to 10 popular characters looked after the participants. Maya the Bee, Ferdy the Ant, Pat and Mat, Papa Smurf, a Minion, Olaf and Skye from Paw Patrol, a favourite with the girls, all put on skates. Mickey Mouse and Minnie guided us through the whole event with their words.

The programme also included a presentation of the masks and a competition for the most beautiful carnival costume. The contest was held in three categories: ages 3-6, 7-10 and 11-15.

A six-member jury deliberated for a long time after each round. They counted the votes and chose the masks on which there was the most agreement. The winners were rewarded with applause and received diplomas and prizes from the mayor of the town.

We all believe that in a year we will meet again at the second edition of this successful event.
