On Saturday 25 April 2026, the Community Garden in Spišská Belá came alive with sunshine, good spirits and shared work. The Spring Community Festival once again brought together neighbours, volunteers and partners, who created a day full of cooperation, relaxation and fun in the spirit of community and sustainability ☀️🤝
There was a lovely atmosphere from early morning, and the garden gradually filled with people of all ages.
A harmonious start indoors 🧘♀️
This year we kicked off the festival indoors with morning Pilates with Zuzka. Participants got moving and gradually tuned in to an active day, which continued with a programme right in the garden.
Together for the garden 🌿🛠️
A large part of the day was devoted to tidying up the garden space, led by Tonka from the culture department and Lenka from Pôjd. Volunteers from Expression o.z. joined in, as did people from our community across generations.
Little by little you could see the space changing, and together we got a great deal done and prepared the garden for the coming season. Around 30 people took turns working during the day. The mayor of the town also joined in and lent a hand alongside the other volunteers.
An open-air gallery 🖼️🌳
Throughout the festival, an exhibition by pupils of the art department of the Ladislav Mednyánszky Art School (ZUŠ) decorated the garden fence. The colourful works created a pleasant backdrop and brightened up the whole garden.
Hernička for the little ones and creativity for everyone 🎨👧
The Hernička mother and child centre looked after the children's corner and the creative workshops for children and seniors alike. FACE CLUB prepared creative activities and face painting for older children. All day long the garden was full of colour and children's laughter.
Tasty cooking from our seniors 🥣👵
Refreshments were provided by the Union of Pensioners of Slovakia from Spišská Belá, who cooked 50 litres of bean soup. It was one of the most popular parts of the programme and gradually ran out down to the last portion. Big thanks to Tesco for the fruit and ingredients 🍎
Swap – a fashion exchange with a purpose 👗♻️
A clothing SWAP, organised by the association Trochu inak, took place in the community centre. Hundreds of items found new owners, and plenty of people stopped by throughout the day. Once again this year it was clear that there is great interest in sustainable fashion in our town.
Music and majorettes 🎺👯♀️
The programme was enlivened by majorettes from the Leisure Centre (CVČ), led by Zuzka Knapíková, who brought energy and good spirits. Pupils of the Ladislav Mednyánszky Art School (ZUŠ) then took the stage and played a selection of pieces right in the garden.
Cinema in the community centre 🎬🍿
We finished the day with a screening of the fairy tale Turning Red (Keď sa červenám). We moved to the Community Centre, where the children enjoyed the film and a calm end to the whole festival.

All day long the garden was filled with a sense of togetherness and the joy of working side by side. The festival would not have been what it was without the help of our partners, sponsors and all the volunteers.
